After being annexed by the British East India Company in 1803, Gurgaon served as an administrative center during the British Raj.
It was in the late 20th century that Gurgaon underwent a remarkable transformation, evolving from a sleepy town into a modern commercial hub and satellite city of Delhi, driven by the liberalization of the Indian economy and the rise of the IT and service industries.
